Sad news: Lhasa no more

I only recently learned that the wonderful Lhasa is no longer with us. She died on January 1st, at the age of 37, of breast cancer.

New Don McGlashan album

Don McGlashan has a new album coming out (or already out? or something?). I presume it’s getting some airplay in NZ, anyone can tell me if I should be excited? In any case I’m not paying any attention until The Diss is Dissertated. But it might make a nice present-to-self in a couple of weeks… [...]

Nothing Else Matters

Olga pointed me to this fantastic rendition of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters, on electric guitar and saz. Aman aman.

What happened to Amarok?

Amarok used to be the best music player you could find anywhere. When I bought a second-hand macbook I was all excited because I could finally see what all the fuss about this magical iTunes thingy was. A few days of playing and I wanted Amarok again.1 A few days ago I upgraded my work [...]

New Lhasa album, coming April 21st!

Lhasa has a new release coming April 21st. Fantastic. [How do I know? Soundamus tells me so.]

Free albums galore!

Robin has pointed me at the marvellous blog Free Albums Galore. The blogger, Marvin, links to complete albums that can be legally downloaded, gratis and DRM-free. That’s pretty awesome: only legally available free music, only complete albums (with a few exceptions for “really awesome complete works like Mozart’s 40th Symphony”), no registrations or DRM. Robin [...]

The Black Seeds … almost

Last night the Black Seeds played the Melkweg. I didn’t go, because today they were on the verandah of Timboektoe, a beach bar. So today I cycled to Wijk aan Zee… and got so lost along the way that I missed the gig. I can’t post photos yet, for ridiculous technological reasons. I made a [...]

Mardi Gras.bb at eMusic

At last! The Mardi Gras.bb have appeared on eMusic. That is, they’ve shown up on the European site (they’re German, although you wouldn’t guess it from listening), with slightly different punctuation and case (I’m taking the regrettable .bb from their site — apparently it stands for “big band”) but the same glorious sound. The new [...]
