The place we went to had nice cups for quaffing too, but disappointingly enough they were moulded not turned -- lifeless lunks, although I suppose they stack very efficiently.

I've seen pictures of nyckelharpor, of course, but unfortunately I've had little opportunity to exercise my folkiness within Scandinavia.

As to my Stockholm recommendations, they wouldn't extend much beyond the above (I've only spent the odd day there). Grågåsen is at the sign of the grey goose (naturally) at Ignatiigränd 3 in the Old Town. Don't remember if they had mead, but they had beer brewed to a mediæval recipe and served in earthenware vessels.

You've never seen a nyckelharpa?! But it's a Scandinavian folk instrument!

I should have thought to get tips from you before going. Next time (I presume there will be a next time, with all the family there).

Huzzah for Stockholm! I have a great liking for the place, especially the Old Town. My favourite haunt is Grågåsen, which is similar to Sjätte Tunnan in many respects (at least judging by your description of the latter). And I am enthused by any bar that experiences enough singing to impose rules on the repertoire... I wish we had a place like that in Dunedin.

You have my sincere nyckelharpa envy: I don't think I've ever seen one. Now I want one.
