Weekly acquisitions

Ok, so I can’t resist posting this week’s haul. Because Book Traffic on Leliegracht is going out of business, and has a 75%-off sale. Yes, 75% off. So I spent a truly delightful hour or so browsing, and found:

Multatuli’s Max Havelaar, a novel written in the 1860’s protesting Dutch colonial policy. I’ve been looking for [...]

Semi-hiatus

Blogging will be light the next wee while — real life (remember that? the one without a 3:4 aspect ration) and work are making their presence felt. I’ll still pop up if anything exciting happens, but I guess there won’t be any reviews or similar for a while.

Oops. “I’ll just pop in and see if they have any Lucius Shepard” doesn’t work at the Book Exchange (Kloveniersburgwal, loads and loads of English-language secondhand, good sf section, highly recommended).

Last week’s Primo Levi (The Periodic Table) has started me on a Levi kick: Moments of Reprieve, Other People’s Trades and his Auschwitz memoirs If [...]

(There are also a couple more shots [...]

Weekly acquisitions

From the Boekenmarkt Spui:

Primo Levi, The Periodic Table Neal Stephenson, Cryptonomicon

Statistically unlikely phrases

“This has been a suspiciously covert attempt to hide the bungalow from officers.” And yes, I checked that date, and no, it wasn’t yesterday.

And I was checking the status of a book order, and was told: “Drop ship sent”. A bit worried by that “suppression fire”, me… (Yeah, ok, there’s an explanation. But it’s boring.)

Trying new things

Last weekend: yoga, and Greek folk music. (Ok, that’s not a fair description of rebetiko, but I don’t know any better.) Yay for summer!
