Recruitment drive

When I was an empoverished student I put my CV on a Dutch recruitment site, advertising my programming background. That was almost four years ago, and I never heard anything from anyone.

Yesterday I got an email, and pulled my CV from the site immediately (I’d forgotten it existed). This morning I had two phonecalls and a text message, from at least two different agencies.

This for a CV saying I have some experience with Java, Perl and Lisp, and am a “quick learner”. And of course it’s all for nothing, because I’m now a full-time PhD student with no need for dodgey alternative income. But I can’t help wondering what sort of shake-up is going on, that would send them out on a three-year-cold trail after a fairly obviously hopelessly inexperienced programmer who doesn’t (or didn’t at the time) speak Dutch…

Afterword

After one phonecall I got a follow-up mail from the recruiter, asking me to send on anyone I know who’s interested in an IT job. I’d love to, but I can’t share his details:

This electronic transmission is strictly confidential and
intended solely for the addressee.

But if anyone is looking for work, I now know of at least one apparently desperate agency…

Believe it or not, something similar happened to me. Just a few days ago I got a call from some IT recruiting company that found my phone number in a database of mathematics students (a past life). Like you, I explained them I already have a job for the coming 3 years (in all likelyhood). Interesting that these people are suddenly so desparate.
