Today I received my sofinummer (Social-Financial number: taxes, for the paying of). Which means that next month I’ll receive a full salary — until now I’ve been paying over 50% tax, which I now have to claim back. All I have to regularise now is my living situation, and I’ll be in the clear (officially I still live in Zaandam, and the house I officially live in has now been demolished…).

Just a question… I will also work in the netherlands soon and i also need a social/financial number. Do i really need a passport or is my french ID card enough? thank you for your answer
I think your French card should be enough, as an EU citizen. (Since I’m a New Zealander, I automatically needed a passport for everything, and proof of residency also.) You should get the number comfortably early, it’s by appointment only and can take up to a couple of weeks.
(And just out of interest: how on earth did you come across my blog, if you were looking for information on the sofinummer?)
In email, Philippe tells me that he indeed found this entry via Google. I didn’t have the heart to ask what the terms were… Happy ending: he’s since discovered the tax office, which I trust will be more helpful.
